Get loaded and get paid on time.

Setara Transport arranges drayage off the GTA rail ramps, intermodal truck legs, and Canada-US truckload through carrier partners like you. We pay net 15 on a clean POD, put detention, layover and TONU in writing on the rate confirmation, and pass you the shipper's actual weights and appointment times before you roll, or tell you plainly when we do not have them.

The deal

Straight loads, straight paper, straight pay.

Most of what carriers hate about brokers is avoidable: rates that move after booking, accessorials that turn into arguments, and payment nobody will give a date for. We built the carrier side of Setara to remove those three things.

You bring
  • Active operating authority (CVOR, and MC/DOT for cross-border lanes)
  • Auto liability and cargo insurance in force, with a certificate
  • Your own tractors and trailing equipment, maintained and inspected
  • Drivers with clean abstracts, and drayage or cross-border experience
We bring
  • Payment net 15 from a clean POD, by direct deposit. Quick pay available: one fee, stated in your packet, and it does not change load to load
  • Detention, layover and TONU in writing on every rate confirmation
  • The shipper's weights and appointment times as given to us, and border paperwork coordinated through a licensed customs broker partner
  • A dispatch contact who knows your trucks and picks up the phone, with a direct number
Getting paid

Net 15. Not net whenever.

The 15 days start the day you send us the signed POD. Your invoice can follow; the clock does not wait for it. Need it sooner? Quick pay is available, at one fee that is in your packet before you sign. Payment status is never a mystery: ask us and a person gives you the pay date.

Clean POD, clean clockSend the signed POD from your phone, a photo or PDF by email is fine, and the 15 days start counting. Clean means signed, legible, and with no unnoted shortage or damage. If a POD is not clean we tell you what is missing that day, and the clock restarts when you send it.
Accessorials honoredFree time, the detention rate, layover and TONU are written on the rate confirmation before you accept, so you can decline a load whose terms you do not like. If it is on the rate con, Setara pays it to you whether or not our customer pays us.
Rate cons that holdThe rate you accept is the rate you invoice. We do not reissue rate confirmations after booking to shave the number.
No double-brokeringYou haul for Setara, on Setara paper, for Setara's customer. We do not re-broker your load, and we do not accept re-brokered loads either.
The freight

Ramps, borders, and the lanes between.

Setara's book is built around the Greater Toronto Area and the corridors that feed it. If your trucks live in Ontario, this is home turf.

Container drayageImports and exports through CN Brampton and CPKC Vaughan: ramp to door, door to ramp, and empties back. Tell us if you run your own chassis or pool chassis. Chassis, ramp storage and dry runs are on the rate confirmation for every drayage move, including who pays for the empty return.
Intermodal truck legsFirst and last mile around rail moves across Ontario and into Quebec, matched to your equipment and your yard.
Canada-US truckloadDry van, reefer and flatbed into the Midwest and Northeast. PARS and PAPS are coordinated through a licensed customs broker partner before your driver reaches the crossing.
Ontario domesticFTL and partials across the GTA and southwestern Ontario, including the loads that fill a backhaul.
How it works

One packet, then you are cleared.

1

Tell us about your fleet

Company, authority numbers, equipment, lanes, and how to reach dispatch. The form below takes a few minutes.

2

We verify

Authority status, safety record, insurance certificate and coverage limits, and a quick reference check. Every carrier goes through the same vetting; nobody skips it. Want to check us out first? Ask for the packet, it has our legal name, address, and the person you will deal with.

3

Sign the carrier packet

One agreement, your business number (or US tax ID if you are based in the US), and a void cheque for direct deposit. Then you are in the system with your equipment and lanes on file.

4

First load

We offer freight that fits your trucks, with the rate and accessorials in writing. Accept it, run it, send the POD, get paid. And if we do not have freight that fits your lanes right now, we tell you that instead of signing you up and going quiet.

Our side of the deal

What we will not do.

A short list, because it is the list that matters.

  • Post a rate to get a truck, then send a lower rate con. The number you accept is the number you invoice.
  • Guess the weight or the appointment. If we do not have real numbers from the shipper, we say so before you commit.
  • Argue about detention after the fact. The terms are on the rate confirmation. If you were held past the free time on it, you get paid for it.
  • Go quiet on payment. You will always be able to get a status and a date from a person.
  • Double-broker your load. Not out, and not in.
  • Deduct a claim from an unrelated invoice. A cargo claim is handled as a claim, in writing, with your input. We do not offset it against loads you already ran without your written agreement.
  • Play games with your factor. If you factor, send the notice of assignment with your packet and we pay your factor as instructed. Quick pay is there if you would rather skip factoring.

Carrier questions

What carriers ask before they sign.

What are your payment terms, exactly?
Net 15, and the clock starts the day you send us the signed POD; your invoice can follow. Paid by direct deposit. Quick pay is available at one fee that is in your carrier packet before you sign, and it does not change load to load. If a POD has an issue, we tell you what it is the same day rather than sitting on it.
Are detention, layover and TONU paid?
Yes. Free time, the detention rate, layover and TONU are on the rate confirmation before you accept, so you can decline a load whose terms you do not like. If it is on the rate con, Setara pays it to you whether or not our customer pays us. Detention runs from your scheduled appointment time, and your documented in and out times are the record.
Do you double-broker?
No. You haul on Setara paper for Setara's customer. We do not re-broker loads to another party, and we do not accept loads that another broker is re-brokering to us.
What do you need to set me up?
Active operating authority (CVOR, plus MC and DOT for cross-border), a current insurance certificate showing auto liability and cargo coverage, a signed carrier agreement, your business number (or US tax ID for US-based carriers), and a void cheque for direct deposit. One packet, and you are cleared. Insurance minimums are listed in the packet, so you can see whether you qualify before you fill anything in.
Who is on the rate con, and who pays me?
Setara Transport Inc., a Setara Group company based in Vaughan, Ontario. The same legal name is on your carrier agreement, every rate confirmation, and the direct deposit. One entity, no surprises, and the packet has the address and the person you will deal with.
Do you own trucks that compete with mine?
No. Setara does not own trucks, trailers or chassis and holds no carrier operating authority of its own. Every load we arrange runs on a partner carrier's equipment. Your trucks are the fleet.
Who handles the border paperwork?
Customs entries are arranged through a licensed customs broker partner, and PARS and PAPS are coordinated before your driver reaches the crossing. Your dispatcher confirms the paperwork status with you before the truck rolls.
Is Setara Transport part of the Setara Group?
Yes. Setara Transport is the trucking side of the Setara Group. Setara Logistics handles the forwarding, and we arrange the trucking and drayage through a vetted carrier network.
