Questions, answered
Drayage, explained.
Practical details to help you plan. For a shipment-specific answer, speak with our team.
Speak with our teamWhat is container drayage?
Drayage is the short road move between an intermodal ramp or a port and the door at either end of a container's journey. It is measured in kilometres rather than provinces, but it is the leg where free time, chassis availability and appointment windows decide whether the rest of the move stays on schedule.
Which intermodal ramps do you pull from?
The CN Brampton Intermodal Terminal and the CPKC Vaughan Intermodal Terminal. Both are in the Greater Toronto Area, which is where our drayage runs. For a container arriving somewhere else, ask and we will tell you plainly whether we can arrange it before you plan around it.
Who arranges customs on an import container?
Customs is arranged through a licensed customs broker partner. Setara Logistics is a freight forwarder and does not file entries itself. Sequencing matters more than most shippers expect: an entry that is not ready when the container becomes available turns free time into storage charges.
What sizes of container can you move?
20 ft, 40 ft and 40 ft high cube. Reefer containers are plugged and monitored to the set point you give us. Overweight boxes need to be flagged at quote, because axle limits decide the equipment and sometimes the route.
How do free time and detention work?
The line or the railway gives a set number of days before storage and per diem start. That clock is the reason we watch availability rather than waiting for a notice. We will tell you the dates we are working to, and if a delay is going to cost you, you hear it while there is still time to act.
Do you move loose freight or part of a container?
No. Drayage here is full containers only. If your cargo does not fill a container, ocean LCL or air freight are the right routes and we book both. By road, Setara quotes full trailers only.

Container drayage at the CN Brampton and CPKC Vaughan ramps, and dry van and reefer full truckloads on Ontario and Ontario to Quebec lanes, run on our group’s carrier. Cross-border and long haul move with vetted partner carriers, arranged by us and tracked on one file. You get group equipment on the Ontario leg and network reach on the rest, without managing two relationships.
